Ratepayers can appeal against the entry of their property in the Rating List. The grounds for appealing against rating assessments, as well as information on how to make an appeal and time limits for appeals, can be found on the Valuation Office Website.
You should be aware that if the transitional arrangements apply to your rate bill you may find that a reduction in Rateable Value may not result in a lower bill. This is because if transition applies, the bill is being based on rates paid in earlier years rather than on the Rateable Value.
You will be required to pay rates based on the current entry in the Rating List whilst any appeal is being heard. If the appeal is successful, however, any resulting overpayment will be refunded with interest provided instalments are paid as set out on the bill.
