In February 2004 the Council consulted Partners about a vision for the Borough, with a view to setting the scene for this Strategy and linked initiatives, and so starting to define a long term direction for the Borough. The resulting principle, of seeking to achieve "Growth through Quality", underpins our approach.
Analysis and findings from the 2004 "Leicester Shire Economic Baseline Study" for Leicester Shire Intelligence has provided economic evidence and has informed our assessment of the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats facing Charnwood. These have been considered within the context of East Midlands Development Agency's Regional Economic Strategy and the sub-regional plans of Leicester Shire Economic Partnership.
The resulting draft strategy, for the development of Charnwood's economy over the next 10 years to 2014 recently went out for consultation. The closing date for the consultation period was Monday 23rd August and the responses were considered by Cabinet on 16th September. The finalised Strategy will be recommended to the Council at its meeting on 18th October and can be downloaded using the link below. Additional copies can be obtained from the Policy and Economic Regeneration team (tel 01509 634603).
This strategy is now due for overhaul. The baseline study carried out by ECOTEC in 2004 is now being repeated (Autumn 2006). This study plus the other significant reports (such as employment land studies, etc.) will form the basis of a revised Economic Development Strategy for Charnwood. The draft of this should be ready for consultation very early in 2007
This sets out an economic strategy for the East Midlands to the year 2020
This set of documents is what will replace the old Local Plan. It is also known as the Regional Spatial Strategy. It covers a wide range of issues including housing, employment, transport and infrastructure, etc. and is intended to set the direction for the region for the next 15 - 20 years
